Mon. 3/18: ENGAGING ECONOMIC SUCCESS THROUGH DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY - Jared Smith, COO, Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA)

The LVGEA is a public-private partnership dedicated to developing the economies of Las Vegas, Clark County, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City, and Mesquite through regional cooperation, global trade, and global connectivity. As the COO, Mr. Smith has a leadership role in the organization's economic development, planning, operations, partnership building and strategy. He is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), and his experience includes working with C-level executives on business and strategic development, banking, and management.

Tues. 3/19: AUTISM - Dr. Michelle McGuire, Lead Faculty, Social Services

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. Dr. McGuire will cover: defining DSM-5 Criteria for ASD, identify differences throughout the lifespan, and discuss management strategies for ASD at different developmental stages. In addition to being adjunct faculty at the University of Phoenix, Dr. McGuire is the Clinical Director and Co-Owner of Creative Behavioral Connections, providing neuropsychological testing and oversight of treatment services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders. A Nevada licensed Psychologist, Dr. McGuire has a diverse background working with a number of different populations, including developmental and intellectual disabilities, serious mental illness, and chemical dependency.

Wed. 3/20: TRENDS IN PROVIDING SECURITY - Douglas Florence Sr., CPP Business Development Director, Gaming & Hospitality VPL, Patrocinium Systems, Inc.

Mr. Florence is a Business Development Director for Patrocinium Systems, Inc. a Reston Virginia based company that provides an advanced platform and mobile application that allows companies to monitor one or many locations, as well as employees, anywhere in the world. Throughout his career Douglas has worked in security operations and has developed a diverse background of experience globally that benefits the C-Level and business unit executives that he has worked with by providing the information they required to make informed decisions. An operations subject matter expert with extensive management experience in; gaming; retail; corporate security; technology solutions, security operations, risk management and investigations, he also contributes the success of “B to B” relationships with security operational practices and use of technology as a force multiplier, rapid response and decision-making resource to mitigate risk and liability.

Thurs. 3/21: THE MAYOR'S FUND FOR LAS VEGAS LIFE - Dr. Lisa Morris Hibbler, Director, Youth Development and Social Innovation

Dr. Lisa Morris Hibbler is the director of the city of Las Vegas Department of Youth Development and Social Innovation a relatively new city department. In this role Dr. Hibbler champions the mission of ensuring children are healthy, safe, successful in school, and connected to caring adults; that every student in every neighborhood has access to a 21st Century education; and she creates new ways to address social needs and problems through strategic public/private partnerships. Dr. Hibbler spearheaded the launch of “The Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE” a key initiative for creating sustainable public-private partnerships in support of four focus areas Livability, Innovation, Future and Education. Dr. Hibbler will focus on this initiative and the potential impact of this partnership on the community. Dr. Hibbler holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas and a Doctorate in Public Administration from the University of La Verne, California. In 2012, she completed the Judicial Administration Graduate Certification at Michigan State University.
