There are 5 spots available for students between the ages of 9 - 17. The program lasts for 4 weeks and is held twice a month in February and March 2017. All students are required to attend all four classes. I AM A GOOD STUDENT was designed for students who are intelligent, but may make poor grades or work under their potential because they struggle with focusing in class and have poor organizational skills.
I AM A GOOD STUDENT is an acronym designed by Constance M. Messina, Ph.D. In this program a multisensory technique with special attention to organizational skills is utilized in order to maximize the student’s learning potential. Because every child learns differently, a brief assessment is provided to determine your student’s unique learning style.

All students must be registered by January 16, 2017, in order to attend the February 4th class. This study skills program fills up fast, so be sure to contact our office soon! Interest – this section assists the student in discovering how learning plays a role in their everyday life and is designed to establish a direct application to how their behavior in school impacts their real world outside of school and their place in society.
Activate and motivate– this section recognizes the need to Activate the child’s desire to learn by emphasizing the reward of accomplishment. The student is motivated during the program and at school by witnessing his or her accomplishments through their direct application of practicing effective studying methods learned during the program.
Manage– in this section time management is emphasized and the student learns to manage one’s time before, after, and during a learning experience. Through the use of time management applications, the student learns that by managing their time appropriately they can be free to pursue other activities of their choosing.
Affirm–verbal and non-verbal affirmations are utilized to acknowledge that each student is capable, intelligent, and worthy enough to successfully accomplish all the goals outlined in this program.
Gather – enable the student to successfully gather all the necessary information in order to be an effective learner in this program and in school.
Organize – in this section the parents’ direct involvement is encouraged in order to establish organized homework space and provide the student with the necessary tools to organize their lockers and homework folders at school.
Outline – in this section the student will learn how to outline textbooks, notes and other assignments in order to facilitate learning.
Decide – the student is reminded that their decisions have a direct impact on their ability to be a good learner, which will set them on the direct path to be successful.
Strategize – the student is provided with strategizes that will help them to be better listeners, readers, and overall students.
Test – the student is given an assessment to determine their best test-taking strategy. They also are taught how to properly prepare for tests.
Use and Understanding – student learns various multisensory approaches deemed necessary to help them become successful students.
Do, Develop – students learn tools that will assist them in developing good study skills and habits.
Evaluate – students evaluate their use of the study skill methods and study habits learned in the program.
Normalize – habits are emphasized in this section, as the students and parents will learn the importance of incorporating the skills learned in this program in their everyday life to ensure that these tools become habit and remain with the student throughout his or her life.
Try – the students are reminded that these skills are obtainable for everyone and by participating in this program and incorporating these tools in their everyday lives they can one day say: I AM A GOOD STUDENT!
