Event description
Hypertufa looks like stone but weighs less and takes whatever shape you want! Make a planter with us!

About this Event

Let us help you make a containers made from hypertufa. They are wonderful for displaying rock-garden plants or succulents. Over time, the hypertufa ages gracefully, collecting a patina of mosses and lichens.

Because of its natural look, a hypertufa container fits right into a rock garden. When filled with blooming plants, it can be a focal point in the garden.

We will supply the ingredients, the workspace, gloves and dust masks.

wear old clothes

Bring your own container or mold. Some ideas are: bowls, old pots, old enamel glass dishes, hanging planters, used zip-loc bags. If you have trouble finding a container, let us know and we can help. Once you register we'll be glad to answer any questions about containers and provide help. Do not use anything valuable, or that you are attached to. In some cases we may need to break the mold to release the hypertufa. The mold should be no larger than 12" in diameter and 6"-10" high (so we have enough material for everyone).

For some ideas, you can do a quick internet search for "hypertufa mold"

The planters can stay in the nursery as they dry and cure, a process that takes a few weeks.

You can sign up for part Two of this workshop, which is planting your hypertufa container!
