Data visualisation is a critical skill for generating research impact. Whether you work with qualitative data or quantitative data, or a mix of the two, effectively visualising your findings can help attract larger and new audiences to your work. This seminar will be organised around a common framework for interactive visual design and will draw on real data from the Researching Sustainable School Leadership (ReSSLe) project, a three-year mixed methods study led by Toby Greany. I will demonstrate how to push beyond standard data visualisation techniques (i.e. charts, graphs, and tables) to generate more creative displays for communicating findings from mixed methods social science research. Specifically, this seminar will make use of the D3 JavaScript library and is intended for researchers with all kinds of data interested in expanding their knowledge of data visualisation.
