Description
In the aftermath of Hurst v. Florida (2016) and Hurst v. State (Fla. 2016), the Florida Supreme Court has overturned death sentences for approximately 150 death row prisoners and ordered new sentencing hearings. There is now an urgent need for attorneys to represent prisoners in these resentencing proceedings.
This free training sponsored by the ABA Death Penalty Representation Project will feature presentations by experienced capital defenders who will provide instruction on the fundamental skills needed to represent a prisoner in a capital sentencing proceeding. ABA staff will also discuss current cases in need of pro bono assistance. Come learn how you can help a prisoner in need. No prior criminal experience is required!
The ABA has requested 6.5 CLE credit hours in 60-minute states, and 7.8 credit hours in 50-minute states.
**Breakfast and lunch will be provided**

The ABA is requesting CLE credit for the states: IL, NY, PA & VA only. These states sometimes do not approve a program for credit before the program occurs. This course is expected to qualify for 6.5 CLE credit hours in 60-minute states, and 7.8 credit hours in 50-minute states. This transitional program is approved for both newly admitted and experienced attorneys in NY. Attorneys may be eligible to receive CLE credit through reciprocity or attorney self-submission in other states. For more information about CLE accreditation in your state, visit www.americanbar.org/cle/mandatory_cle.html or contact Sylvia Krohn at sylvia.krohn@americanbar.org or 202-662-1738.
