Event Details

FEMA Region II and the Federal Executive Boards of NY and Northern New Jersey Plan will sponsor a Post Hurricane Sandy Continuity Lessons Learned Hotwash on February 26, 2013 to identify continuity of operations (COOP) experiences, lessons learned, and best practices of Federal Departments, Agencies and US Courts before, during, and after the storm.  FEMA’s State Partners, Private Sector Entities, Non Profit Originations and Universities are also invited to attend.  This process is intended to develop a continuity of operations component to an overall Hurricane Sandy After Action Report (AAR)/Improvement Planand will be driven by your feedback provided on the attached survey.

Similar Hurricane Sandy Continuity Lessons Learned Hotwashes have occurred in Boston (FEMA Region I) and Philadelphia (FEMA Region III).  National Continuity Programs will host a unified three-city After Action Conference presented via Webinar on March 14, 2013 to discuss the final AAR findings.  (Details will be forthcoming)

The NY and Northern New Jersey  Lessons Learned Hotwash on February 26 will be 3 hours in length.   During the Hotwash each participating agency will be asked to describe their continuity actions during Sandy and discuss what went well and where an agency encountered challenges.

Objectives

·         Identify and document agency continuity of operations and related strengths and weaknesses during the Hurricane Sandy event.

·         Share lessons learned from D/A’s ability or inability to conduct their respective Mission Essential Functions (MEFs) and Essential Supporting Activities (ESAs).

·         Discuss best practices that serve as the basis for designing or improving a continuity of operations capability to ensure continued performance of MEFs during a disruption to normal operations.

·         Develop useful continuity-related information to disseminate to D/As prior to another similar event.
