ABOUT THE DELEGATES


H.E. Péter Szijjártó
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Minister Szijjártó was born on October 30th, 1978 in Komárom. He is an economist who earned his degree in International Relations from the Budapest University of Ecnomic Sciences and Public Administration in 2002. He was elected to member of the municipal government in 1998 in the city of Győr and again between 2006 and 2010. In June 2012 he was appointed to State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of the Prime Minister’s Office. In June, 2014, he was appointed to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Since September, 2014, he serves as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

 

Mr. Mark Arend

Editor in chief, Site Selection Magazin

Mark Arend is Vice President of Publications and Editor in Chief of Site Selection magazine, the leading U.S. economic development publication. On the editorial staff since 1997, Mark leads an award-winning team of writers and graphic designers in the bi-monthly delivery of global location analysis for senior management at corporations worldwide. Airport-related economic development, talent acquisition and foreign direct investment are among his areas of expertise. Prior to his tenure at Site Selection, Mark held editorial positions in New York City at Wall Street Computer Review, ABA Banking Journal and Global Investment Technology. A native of Ontario and raised in Connecticut, Mark is a graduate of the University of Hartford and lives near Atlanta.

 

Christopher Ball, Ph.D.

Director of the Central European Institute (CEI) at Quinnipiac University

Chris Ball is founder and Director of the Central European Institute (CEI) at Quinnipiac University where he also holds the Istvan Szechenyi Chair in International Economics. Ball serves as the Honorary Hungarian Consul for Connecticut where he promotes bi-lateral business relations with Hungary. He owns and manages CEENET LLC a boutique consulting firm, co-owns and manages ArenaCAD USA, a Romanian-based 3D laser scanning  processing company, and www.InvestCEE.com a business news website focused on Central European economies.

Ball has been with Quinnipiac University since 2003. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Ph.D. in International Macroeconomics at Texas A&M University. He worked in Budapest, Hungary at the Hungarian Atlantic Council and in Hungary and Romania as a fellow of the Institute of Current World Affairs writing about economic development in the region.

Merrick Murphy
President, Arconic Wheel and Transportation Products

Merrick Murphy is the President, Arconic Wheel and Transportation Products (AWTP), the global leader in
forged aluminum wheels and other structures that serve the commercial transportation industry. AWTP has
operations in North America, Europe, Asia, South Africa and Australia. Merrick joined Alcoa in 1997 and has served nearly every division of the AWTP business since then – from sales and distribution to operations and growth. Prior to this appointment, Merrick was Vice President and General Manager for Alcoa’s Commercial Vehicle Wheel business in the Asia Pacific region, in which role he oversaw the business unit’s regional operations, sales and distribution. Merrick led the investment in AWTP’s first facility to support the China market and grew the business’s Chinese distribution and commercial footprint. He also accelerated growth in other key
Asian markets. Prior to taking the helm of the Asia Pacific region, Merrick oversaw the Americas for AWTP, also as Vice President and General Manager. He held earlier positions as AWTP’s Vice President of Sales and General Manager of Sub-Assembly and Logistics. Merrick has bachelor’s degree in business administration from Loyola University, in Chicago.

Eric Stewart

President of U.S. – Hungary Business Council

Eric Stewart is a Partner with the Washington DC firm of Williams & Jensen, PLLC. Mr. Stewart represents clients before the Administration, Congress and select foreign governments on a range of international and domestic policy matters. Mr. Stewart also serves as President of U.S. – Hungary Business Council. Prior to joining Williams & Jensen, Mr. Stewart served as the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe/Eurasia at the Department of Commerce and as a Senior Advisor to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. In 2006, Mr. Stewart was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary by the President of Hungary for his outstanding contributions to fostering Hungarian-American economic relations. In 2012, Mr. Stewart was awarded the Knights Cross of the Order of Merit by the President of the Republic of Poland for Mr. Stewart’s formation of the US-Poland Business Council. He is also a member of the Atlantic Council.

Mr. Stewart, who holds a bachelor's degree from Ohio University, also served three years on the University's National Alumni Board of Directors as well as received the Ohio University 2002 Outstanding Recent Graduate Award. Mr. Stewart is often called upon by Members of Congress and the Administration for his views on bilateral and regional economic relations with foreign countries. He regularly is in the media including appearances on FOX News and other television outlets.

 

Martin Kosto
Senior Vice President, Global Supply Chain and Manufacturing, SUEZ Water Technologies & Solutions

As the leader of SUEZ’s Water Technologies & Solutions ’ supply chain and operations , Martin is responsible for our global Manufacturing , Planning , Logistics , Customer Care , EH&S Environmental , Health, and Safety ) and Product Compliance organizations . With nearly 20 years experience across General Electric , Martin has spent the last 13 with Water & Process Technologies, holding roles in quality , manufacturing , operations , product management and P&L leadership across the Chemical and Equipment Membrane Businesses. In his most recent role , he led the Engineered Systems Products Business Unit. Martin began his career as a gas turbine design engineer for GE, and has held several other engineering, risk management and finance roles before coming to W&PT.

Gabor Kiss 

Executive Director, Eastern European Business Group, Global Tax Desks 

Gábor is an Executive Director at EY’s New York office. Leading the Hungarian Tax Desk and a member of the Eastern European Business Group of the firm. In his role he deals with more than 25 countries from the Eastern European region and is a point of contact for those countries both for internal EY questions and for clients as well. Before his relocation to the United States he gained over ten years of professional tax experience in domestic and international tax planning in Hungary through assisting multiple Fortune 500 clients with setting up financing, holding and IP structures in Hungary and other countries in the region.
Gabor has built up a wide range of expertise in advising multinational clients on their operations in Eastern Europe across various industries including financial services, consumer and industrial products and service (CIPS) and automotive. Apart from the tax planning type of structuring he serves multiple client in non-tax driven reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions. Gábor speaks English, Hungarian, Russian and Ukrainian.

 

Mr. Robert Ésik
CEO of the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA)

Róbert Ésik is an economist and a finance & investment analysis expert. He graduated at the Corvinus University of Budapest and earned a master’s degree at the Université Panthéon Assas in Paris. He spent almost 15 years in various positions at the largest ICT companies of the world, such as Alcatel, Siemens, Nokia and Amazon. As the country director of Nokia Solutions and Networks he played a key role in the Hungarian subsidiary becoming one of Nokia’s most important technology development centres. Since October 2014 he has been directing the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA).
