Event description

Description

"Kondwani Fidel is a brilliant and bold voice of a generation of hummingbirds. This book of essays and lyrics sing baritone from the depth, from the complexities of the young Black experience in America. It is relevant. It is regal. It is real."
Ibram X. Kendi, National Book Award-winning author of Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America

Hummingbirds in The Trenches is a collection of essays and poems that explore oppressive educational systems, police brutality, violence, and mental health issues: things that are commonplace for poor black people in Baltimore, and throughout America.

Please join us for a screening of Fidel's documentary of the same name, and discussion of the new book with writer Yahdon Israel , creator of Literaryswag .
