Humboldt County has over 135,000 residents and a mortality rate that is 33% higher than the State of California. The children of Humboldt County are beginning their lives at a disadvantage. For example, 41% of children aged 3-5 are not enrolled in preschool or kindergarten, pregnant women are 3.7 times more likely to have a substance abuse disorder, and 76% of children are without access to childcare (Humboldt County Community Health Assessment 2018).

There are many factors that come into play when discussing access to healthcare such as finances, religious/cultural beliefs, transportation, and language barriers, just to name a few. Together we can combat these limiting factors and help our community members get the care they need and deserve. With the power of Entertainment, we can create change.

CANARY & THE VAMP

• Wind it up and let it go! It's vintage and it swings! Summoning forgotten ditties, ballads, and musical numbers from  the jazz age is Canary and the Vamp. It's amazing such a big sound can come from such a small band!  Beverly Twist, chanteuse and guitarist of Humboldt County band, Belles of the Levee, pairs nicely with Absynth Quartet's John Ludington and Ryan Roberts. Roberts' ability to play Django-like jazz manouche on his self-made o-hole guitar brings you back to 1920's Paris. Ludington takes a break from electric bass to take five with the upright bass. Twist, AKA Canary, channels the voices of Ethal Merman,  Mildred Bailey and other Red Hot Mamas of the day!

DOMINIC ROMANO

• A producer and songwriter converged into artist — Dominic Romano. Fresh off of the release of his 2021 album Sightline, Dominic joins us for an unplugged and acoustic set of original songs. The sound is an authentic and honest blend of old and new with thoughtful lyrics, held and supported by catchy melodies. THE PENNER SISTERS

• The Penner Sisters are part of a musical three-sibling set hailing from Red Bluff, California. The Penners recently moved to Humboldt County and embarked on a songwriting journey together. Elisa and Brianna Penner began writing lyrics and melodies for their original music in late 2019. Their brother, Devin Penner, fortified their efforts with his compositional and piano-playing skills, which he developed while working as a jazz pianist for the Marine Corps All Stars Jazz Band, performing on national television and for NPR live radio. The Penner Sisters debuted their original music with the release of their acoustic EP, “Wandered Too Far”, through the Humboldt-based record label, Mercury Sky Records. The EP features the guitar playing of Humboldt phenomenon, Michael David, and the sound engineering of Dominic Romano of Bongo Boy Studio. The Penner Sisters’ online debut will feature three of Elisa Penner’s original pop songs from an unreleased pop EP still in the works at Bongo Boy Studio. There is a significant shift from The Penner Sisters’ debut EP sound, and is influenced by artists such as Billie Eillish, Sia, Lady Gaga, and Imogen Heap. Instruments and composition were all created on a computer by the Penner siblings and Dominic Romano. Elisa Penner (to be referred to on the upcoming EP as “PENNER”) and Mercury Sky Records anticipate that the pop EP will be released in the Fall of 2021.

ELI FOWLER AND HIS BAND OF HEAVIES

• Eli Fowler, of Redway CA, is an original Southern Humboldt County Emcee. Formerly known as “Little Kidd Lost/Elision,” Eli is a thought provoking, mindful wordsmith with a cleverly instinctive attitude, comedic undertone, and is a rhythmical storyteller who wears his heart on his sleeve as he guides you on his hip hop journey. Backed by the ever steady, Hard Hitting sound of that Humboldt Soul, Eli Fowler And His Band Of Heavies will have you bouncing in your seat.
