Join Bishop Daniel Thomas, guest speaker Janet Smith and families throughout our Diocese in a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Blessed Pope Paul VI's encyclical, Humanae Vitae!


You can find a brief biography of Janet Smith below.

At the celebration, we hope to introduce and (re)invigorate individuals and families with a fervor to live out the teachings of the encyclical and to bring all people into a deeper understanding of the transformative and prophetic messages in the encyclical.

8:00 AM - Doors open and continental breakfast (breakfast served until 8:45)

9:15 AM - Presentation 1 by Janet Smith
10:15 AM - Break

Janet Smith

Janet E. Smith is the author of several books and many articles. Her latest book is Self-Gift, which is a compilation of her essays on Humanae vitae and the thought of John Paul II. Ignatius Press will soon be publishing a second collection of articles written by others on Humanae Vitae entitled Why Humanae Vitae is Still Right: A Reader.

She served three terms as a consulter to the Pontifical Council on the Family and also served as a member of the Anglican Roman Catholic International Commission, III for 8 years.

She has received two honorary doctorates and several other awards for scholarship and service.

Prof. Smith has appeared on the Geraldo show, Fox Morning News, CNN International, CNN Newsroom, AlJazeera and has done many shows for various series on EWTN.

More than two million copies of her talk, “Contraception: Why Not” have been distributed.
