Event description

Description

This is an intensive “hearts-on” and “ brains-on” discussion workshop that grapples with challenging issues facing documentary production above and beyond the use of equipment. A great documentary is the result of a carefully conceived and creatively managed relationship between maker and subject. It requires the authentic construction of trust and rapport. The transaction is professional but also personal, involving flexibility, openness, and a conscious awareness of human emotions. Achieving access to (and cooperation of) subjects is best when done with kindness and ethical sensitivity.

Through shared stories, hypothetical questions and sample clips, this interactive session addresses how to build these meaningful relationships to make truthful and compelling films about real lives. This is a discussion seminar style workshop where participants can share issues at play in their current documentary productions or proposals and get helpful advice and feedback.

Whether novice or seasoned professional, the session is designed to strengthen and enhance documentary filmmakers’ skills and attitudes.
