Human Rights Month Speaker Series

Presented by the Queensland Human Rights Commission

From 1 January 2020, Queensland will have the strongest legislated human rights protections in Australia, as the second phase of the Human Rights Act 2019 comes into effect.

Wednesday 13 November: What is the right to education? Presented by Professor Tamara Walsh, TC Beirne School of Law, University of Queensland.

Thursday 21 November: Understanding the impact of Queensland's Human Rights Act. Presented by Bridget Burton, Director of the Human Rights and Civil Law Practice, Caxton Legal Centre.

Thursday 28 November: Cultural rights for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Presented by Shane Duffy, CEO, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service.

Tuesday 3 December: Freedom of religion and freedom of expression: Balancing rights. Presented by Professor Carolyn Evans, Vice-Chancellor, Griffith University.

20 minute presentation followed by 10 minute Q&A.
