Human Learning Systems

By Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) - Portsmouth

Overview

This is a free session delivered by Toby Lowe (Professor of Public Management at Manchester Metropolitan University).

Rethinking Public Service – Human Learning Systems & Measures that Matter

The Health Determinants Research Collaboration (a collaboration between PCC, UoP and HIVE Portsmouth) provides infrastructure to support research and evaluation learning and activity in the council. Our approach to evaluation and learning is being supported by Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) who are working with us over the 5 years of the programme. This relationship presents a unique opportunity to learn from two leaders in the field of Public Management, facilitated by Professor Hannah Hesselgreaves, Director of the Policy Evaluation and Research Unit at MMU.

This is a unique opportunity to hear from leaders in public health management and engage in rich discussion. While a virtual option is available, we recommend attending in person to benefit fully from the interactive elements and networking.

We also encourage you to attend both sessions, but understand this may not be possible due to capacity. You are very welcome to attend just one session.

Please only book if you intend to come, as space is limited. If you'd like to attend both, you’ll need to book each session separately. This helps maximise the opportunity for others to attend at least one.

The session will start at 9:45am, but we encourage you arrive from 9:15am to enjoy tea, coffee, and informal networking before we begin.

Venue: Room 0.41, Portland Building, Portland St, Portsmouth PO1 3AH

Session 1: Toby Lowe – Human Learning Systems

Discover how Human Learning Systems (HLS) is reshaping the management of public service by prioritising relationships, learning, and trust over "incentivisation". Toby Lowe (Professor of Public Management at Manchester Metropolitan University and Visiting Professor at Centre for Public Impact, Europe), brings deep insight into complexity-aware, human-centred approaches.
