About this Event
Agenda s01e06
This is the list of topics around which we will be structuring the panel discussion.
- Why human agency and oversight are key requirement of "Trustworthy AI"?
- How AI systems make errors and which configurations of Human-in-the-loop could help?
- Contexts, constraints, social bases. When AI can (or should) be a legal agent?
- Dependence lock-in. How to reduce dependence on machine-driven networks which erode people's abilities to think and act for themselves?
- What is the future of humans in an age of accelerating technological change?

Nikita Lukianets
Nikita Lukianets, a Founder of the Open Ethics initiative that fosters the inclusive dialogue between experts and citizens to design systems where humans and AI successfully work together. Nikita is also a Founder and CTO at PocketConfidant AI, a 24/7 coaching technology powered by artificial intelligence.
Previously, as a fellow with SIGNALIFE Ph.D. program in life sciences in France, Nikita worked on supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms for neuronal classification, bridging approaches in neurobiology and statistical learning.
Nikita Lukianets has more than 10 years of experience in Human-Computer Interaction and has partnered with multiple organizations to help them build human-centered interfaces. While working in Microsoft at Developer and Platform Evangelism Division, Nikita was leading a startup support program helping young technology companies to develop their products for scale.
Nikita received an MBA in innovation management from Politecnico di Milano School of Management and M.Sc. in Applied Physics from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
Ben Byford [moderator]
Ben is now mostly a freelance AI / ML teacher, speaker and ethicist and tinkerer – in his spare time he makes computer games. He can be found in Bristol and London. Ben is able to successfully cut through the jargon and help technologists and non-tech savy personnel work effectively. As an extension of this he also teaches with Decoded who runs workshops all over the world.
His public speaking and lecturing blends his insights within AI and ethics, web technologies, and entrepreneurship; focusing on the usage of technology as a tool for innovation and creativity.
Ben authors the Machine Ethics Podcast, which consists of interviews with academics, writers, technologists and business people on the theme of AI and autonomy. Ben also does talks about Machine Ethics and as in the process of writing a short introduction book into the subject.
Open Ethics Series
Open Ethics Series is the chain of educational events around impact of artificial intelligence. The first Series aims to cover the main principles emerging from the broad range of discussions on requirements for development and deployment of AI. The topics will include those that are part of the Ethics guidelines for trustworthy AI by European Commission (Privacy & data governance, Human agency & oversight, Robustness & safety, Transparency, Fairness, Societal & environmental well-being, Accountability), as well as additional topics proposed by the community.
