Event Details

We're at the precipice of the web app revolution.  Applications are switching from native code to web based, and HTML5 is the powerful platform that enables developers to create these native feeling applications and games.

The HTML5 Web App Hackathon is an event for developers to socialize, network, and learn.  During the hackathon, we'll cover the end to end process of developing an HTML5 application, publicizing with Chrome Webstore and finally monetizing with In-App Payments.

Specifically we'll be covering the following APIs:

  • Web Audio
  • Web Fonts
  • History
  • File System
  • Canvas
  • App Cache
  • Web Workers
  • Transitions
  • Chrome Web Store
  • In- App Payments

After the presentation, you'll have the opportunity to create teams and hack on something together or build on something that we'll provide.  At the end of they day, teams and individuals will present what they've created and we'll vote on the best app/game.  The winning team/individual will take home some awesome prize(s).

Below is the itinerary for the day:

11:45-12pm - Check-in
12-1:30pm - Lunch is served & Presentation
1:30-2pm - Pitches & Team organization
2-7pm - Hacking
7-8pm - Dinner is served & Finish hacking
8-9pm - Drinks, Presentations & Voting.

Your hacking guides will be:

Boris Smus

Boris is a Developer Programs Engineer on the Google Chrome team. Before joining Google, he lived on a tropical island in the Atlantic. Earlier still, Boris worked on iWeb and at Apple. He has a MS in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University. Boris spends his leisure time making music and enjoying the great outdoors.

Daniel Hermes

Dan is a Developer Programs Engineer at Google working on the Commerce team. He is kind of a nut; a sports nut, a Python nut and a problem solving nut. Prior to Google, he worked at a healthcare startup in Silicon Valley and before that graduated from the University of Michigan with BS degrees in Mathematics and Economics (seriously, not BS-ing you). Born and bred a midwestern boy, Dan can't get enough California sunshine (or HTML5, Number Theory, Javascript, Linear Algebra,...)

Peng Ying

Peng is a Developer Programs Engineer for Google Commerce. He's helped thousands of developers integrate the Commerce APIs since 2007.  Having written docs, sample code and client libraries for multiple commerce APIs he's an expert in enabling monetization for your web app.
