HSPB 2017: Tour 8: Forward-thinking Modernism
Sun, April 23, 2017, 5:00 PM – 6:15 PM PDT
Join local architect Lance O’Donnell, AIA who will guide you through a recent project that exemplifies the latest in materials and may be a snapshot of what preservation nominations might look like In 50 years!
The two main volumes of the home are connected by a continuous 132 foot long white split-faced block wall that creates a sense of an estate-like compound for the residents while also providing privacy. Pay particular attention to the series of incisions at the courtyard... you will be surprised and delighted to learn the story behind their purpose and integration into the design of this home.
The rugged, simple material palette of white split-faced block, exposed structural steel, and weathered steel come together to create a balanced and serene composition. Operable windows throughout the home allow for natural cross ventilation and solar systems enforce this passive and sustainable design.
**Timeliness is a factor for all tours, please be advised, as tours will begin promptly at 5pm. Note the time and parking suggestion on the ticket you will be given at check-in for the symposium.**
