Event description

Description

The 2018 HSC year is officially underway and with most schools dedicating only one term to almost 50% of the English course (Discovery - Paper I), staying on top of your preparation is absolutely essential. Over the past year, Ignite has developed what we believe to be the most comprehensive Discovery program available. Having catered for over 300 students across 10 schools in 2017, and having seen the incredible progress of students regarding both their marks and attitudes towards English, we are confident that our interactive workshops will lead to noticeable improvements in results.

The Discovery workshop is an intensive, results-driven HSC crash-course held over 2 days (3.5 hours per day) that covers all 3 sections of Paper I: Comprehension, Creative Writing and Essay Writing (Advanced English Text Only: Motorcycle Diaries - Ernesto Che Guevara). We structure the workshop in a way that takes students step by step through each section of the paper, ensuring they have all the skills, content and structures necessary to achieve a band-6 in English. The workshop has a heavy focus on practical exercises, all of which are 100% relevant to the final drafts that students will learn for the HSC. Finally, Ignite prides itself on its lessons in question adaptation, weaving exercises and examples throughout the day that relate to adapting to different types of questions and/or stimuli.

Resource Booklet

In case any ideas, techniques or examples are not noted down by students on the day, we will also be providing resource booklets (valued at $55) which provide a complete analysis of their prescribed text for the essay section, sample comprehension questions and answers, and robust structures which can be applied to any question on the day.

Workshop Structure

Day 1 (10am-1.30pm)

- Discovery Overview

- Comprehension Skills

- Creative Writing

Day 2 (10am-1.30pm)

- Essay: Analysis of Motorcycle Diaries - Ernesto Che Guevara (Advanced English Text Only), Structure and Question Adaptation

To optimise student engagement on the day, availability is limited to 20 students per workshop. We have found this number allows for a perfect balance between individual participation and peer-learning.
