About this event

HR Professional Development Virtual Discussion Groups

Human Resources is pleased to offer professional development seminars open to all UNLV employees. Seminars are designed to build skills in a wide-range of topics that directly relate to the work we do here at UNLV. Seminars are offered over multiple sessions, and attendance in all sessions of a seminar is encouraged, as learning builds from session-to-session. Trainers create an engaging environment that combines presentations with thought-provoking discussions and activities. Because of the interactive and engaging nature of the trainings, you are required to join from your computer or a device that it has a working video camera and microphone. Participation is free to all UNLV employees, registration is required, and space is limited. We will use Canvas for communication and to deliver content. Registration closes four days before the first session in each seminar. See below for course details.

About the course

UNLV is committed to cultivating environments and experiences that continually promote performance for a multi-generational, multiracial, multi-background workforce. Those who demonstrate a high level of cultural intelligence are most effective at realizing this goal. This course will help individuals develop an intercultural mindset and acquire the skills to shift cultural perspective and adapt, or bridge, behavior to cultural commonality and difference.

By attending this session, participants will:

  • Discuss how self-awareness and cross-cultural intelligence impact people-related strategies and practices
  • Engage in a myriad of interactive exercises to deepen their understanding of how diversity, inclusion, and social justice terms impact a manager’s ability to foster an equitable environment
  • Learn how implicit (unconscious) bias impacts leadership capabilities among diverse populations
