Description

Background

The key factor in the success of determining whether students actually learn something that matters, is the creative ability of the academicians and lecturers to combine theory and practical classroom experience. Effective teaching comes from truly excellent lecturers engaged in the learning process. Critical to this process is the lecturer's knowledge of the subject content, and his/her ability to implement new strategies, develop effective performance tasks, design appropriate assessment tools, and address the different student learning styles. Little of this can be accomplished if lecturers are not knowledgeable of new research, and determined to implement it. Effective teaching therefore involves the practical application of new research/theory in the learning environment. Thus the way forward for education is for more young lecturers to conduct more researches.

A myriad of research ideas awaits the attention of avid scholars and inquisitive lecturers itching to find out the why’s and what’s in the field of education. Indeed, research is instrumental in building and improving knowledge, as well as in facilitating efficient learning. Research can shed light on issues that were not even known to exist and can raise questions which were not even realised. In addition, doing research increases the credibility of lecturers as an academic.
