Description

Guided Tours of Howth Castle, home of the St Lawrence's since 1177

Guided public tours of Howth Castle will take place on Saturdays and Sundays in July and Sundays during June and August. Guided tours will last 70 minutes and tickets are €20 with discounts for families, students and senior citizens.

The St Lawrence family came to Howth in 1177, Howth Castle is among the few houses in Europe to have been continuously lived in by the same family for this long. The existing structure dates back to the 15th century; the Gate Tower and Keep from that period are still standing. It has gradually evolved over the centuries and is a unique illustration of how historic houses have evolved in Ireland over the centuries.

Julian Gaisford-St Lawrence at the launch of the Guided Tours said “We are delighted to welcome visitors for Guided Public Tours. We understand that there is a lot of interest in Howth Castle as it one of the oldest residential Castles in Ireland and we are offering a tour which will provide a real insight into the Castle and its residents over the centuries.”

Visitors will see the formal rooms which have welcomed guests such as Ireland’s Pirate Queen, Grace O'Malley, Queen Victoria, Joan Rivers and Bing Crosby. A number of films have used the castle as a location, including recently released, “Love & Friendship”.

Tours are approximately 70 minutes in duration and take place at 12 noon, 1.45pm, 3.30pm. Adult tickets are €20 with discounts for families, students and senior citizens. Meeting point is at the Cafe in the Castle.

Tickets for tours are available to book online at www.howthcastle.com
