Event description
Young people will learn how an animal shelter works, how to support shelter animals and promote compassion for animals!

About this event

Please join Pillows for Paws and Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) for a virtual presentation focused on children, ages 8 years old & up (and their parents, guardians, etc.) to learn all about how NYC's official animal shelter cares for the many different animals in our city who find themselves in need of a new home. Together we will explore what it means to take care of animals - whether you are a shelter worker or have a pet at home yourself!

Whether you live in NYC or not, this webinar will highlight many ways that your children and teenagers can help their own local animal shelters and rescue groups.

Our guest speaker, Katherine Reeves, is the Community Kids Coordinator for Animal Care Centers of NYC (NYCACC). She also oversees ACC's Junior Volunteer Program for students under 18 years old. Her role is to help young people of all ages learn more about how our city shelter system works and how the shelter staff helps to meet the needs of the 25,000 homeless animals surrendered there every year.

Katherine will also talk to us about the different types of jobs and roles available in animal shelters, plus how to be good pet guardians for our companion animals at home.

She will share ideas on ways that friends of all ages can help support, promote, and comfort our shelter pets as they wait for their forever homes.

Helping animals is an important job, and we love it when YOUNG people get involved!
