Companies and organizations that have blogs see many benefits, among them, better Internet search results, increased lead generation, and the ability to get news and information out quickly. There's no doubt that having a blog is a good thing. Yet, many organizations have a hard time coming up with ideas for their blogs and have trouble writing the blog posts. This workshop will teach you how to write your blog: generate blog post ideas, use effective keywords, improve headlines, get readers to your site and much more!
During this three-hour, hands-on workshop you will learn:
- Elements to include in every blog post
- How to find blog post ideas
- Types of blog posts you can write
- How to make your blog work for your organization
- What to include and what to avoid on your blog
- How to improve your headlines
You will leave the session with:
- Best practices for writing blog posts that get read
- Ideas on how to organize your blog and create an editorial calendar
- Knowledge of how to keep your blog working for you
- Several actionable blog post ideas
- A blog post
- Motivation to start blogging!
Please note that this is not a technical class. We won't discuss how to set up a blog.

Who should attend
This workshop is intended for business owners and for organizational communications/marketing managers who want to launch a blog or that have a blog that has not been updated recently or consistently. This session is limited to 10 participants.
What you should bring
Please be sure to bring I.D. with you, as it is required to enter the building. Feel free to bring your laptop/tablet (the facility has free Wi-Fi). More importantly, bring your thoughts about what you want your blog to be.
Location, Transportation and Parking
Metro Offices (www.metroffice.com) is an office and meeting space conveniently located just above the Metro Center station on the Metro's Red and Orange lines. Metro is your best bet to get to this location. If you decide to drive, you will find several paid parking garages around the area.
Cancellation and refund policy
We reserve the right to cancel this workshop if there is insufficient attendance. In the case we cancel the workshop, registered participants will receive a full refund.
Participants may cancel their registration using the Eventbrite system. We will issue a 100% refund if the cancellation is made 48 hours or more from the event date. If the cancellation is requested with less than a 48 hour notice, we will refund 75% of your registration fee.

Your instructor
Deborah Brody is a marketing writer and consultant with more than 20 years of public relations, advertising and marketing experience. She has been blogging on marketing/communications since 2008 on her blog Caffeinated Views. Deborah has also "ghostblogged" for her clients, on subjects including business negotiations and customer service, and has served as the blog editor for a national commercial real estate firm.
Deborah is a skilled instructor. She developed the How to Write Your Blog workshop, which is now entering its third year. Deborah taught Advanced Public Relations Writing at Florida International University and has led a variety of workshops and presentations.
