HOW TO WRITE, SELL, AND PROMOTE YOUR BOOK is a one-day intensive on writing a book -- whatever the genre -- and selling it, whether you decide to self-publish, find an agent, or sell directly to a major house and, once it's published, how to promote it. (You'll learn that promotion starts even BEFORE you've finished your manuscript.) You'll also have some criteria for deciding if you should self-publish, go the more traditional route with a commercial publisher, or consider the new "hybrid" publishers, such as Morgan James. What is a hybrid publisher and would that be the right choice for you?

Part One

Writing the book - how do you begin?

Finishing your book

Getting feedback -- sharing your manuscript so it's helps and doesn't sabbotage you

Now that you have a manuscript, next steps (editor? proofreader? book doctor? project manager?)

Part Two

Deciding how to sell or publish it:

Should you self-publish? Pros and cons?

Should you get an agent? If yes, how do you go about that?

Should you go directly to a publishing company?

Traditional commercial publishers versus hybrid publishers

Production considerations, whoever does your book

Elements of an effective cover and finding and commissioning a cover designer

Finding a printer (deciding on a short run or a POD - print on demand- printing)

Part Three

What is the schedule for publishing a book, whoever publishes it?

Why do you need at least 4-5 months to publish or, for a commercial house, even longer? Making that time work for you.

Developing a book promotion plan for your book (traditional outlets, getting reviews, using social media, innovative options)

Promoting and marketing your book (on your own or hiring a publicist)

Creating and distributing an e-mail list to grow your fan base, pitch the media, and sell your book

Exercises on how to effectively pitch your book to booksellers, libraries, the media, and directly to potential buyers

Summing Up: At the end of the day long HOW TO WRITE, SELL, AND PROMOTE YOURSELF BOOT CAMP there will be handouts with key contact information for the topics discussed throughout the day - such as a list of potential book cover designers or interior book designers to hire or publicists and a list of commercial and hybrid publishers, as well as literary agents, with contact information for follow-up -- as well as an optional networking for attendees from 5-6:30 in the room or at a nearby restaurant.
