Erick Howard and Joseph Mauch will discuss successful strategies in pursuing trade dress cases in light of the well-publicized Federal Circuit Apple v. Samsung decision, including a discussion of recent cases, pre-lawsuit planning and pitfalls, seeking a preliminary and permanent injunctive relief and effective litigation tactics.
Erick Howard (Shartsis Friese LLP) is a partner at Shartsis Friese LLP and head of the Firm’s Trademark Prosecution Practice. Mr. Howard’s primary expertise is in intellectual property litigation (including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, computer law and the protection of technology), contract disputes, business torts and other business litigation. Mr. Howard was previously Vice-Chair of the ABA’s Section of Intellectual Property Law Trademark Litigation Committee, as well as Co-Chair of the ABA’s Section of Litigation Intellectual Property Litigation (“IPL”) Committee.
Joseph Mauch (Shartsis Friese LLP) joined Shartsis Friese LLP in 2007 as an associate in the Litigation Department and was recently made a partner. He has extensive experience in a number of areas of business litigation, with a particular focus on intellectual property litigation. He has experience in state and federal court, as well as private arbitration. His practice also focuses on counseling clients in a variety of industries in intellectual property law, in particular trademark and copyright counseling, trademark prosecution, and brand protection. He has worked with clients ranging from large public companies to small start-ups to individuals.
