Description

How to use Social Media for Academic Networking and Research

There is an increasing trend in using Social Media (SoMe) amongst our staff from academic, research and professional backgrounds over the last five years. However, we know that the majority of staff remains sceptical about the use of social media, for reasons such as 'not having enough time'/ not knowing how to separate personal and professional life on social media and or worrying about the potential risks of involving with social media as a professional. I believe that Social Media offers endless opportunities for us all, but most importantly is the key to the promotion of the excellent work we do at the School of Health Sciences to the wider University, students, and potential students, employees, funders and competitors worldwide. This presentation will focus on the use of SoMe platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Researchgate, Google Scholar, Blogs and Wakelet to help you develop your own professional or academic profiles and there will be an opportunity to discuss your questions and/ or worries about partaking in online communication.
