How to start a revolution: effective activism for a Kinder world
Event Information
About this Event
We're delighted to invite you to our third Kinder Conversation: How to start a revolution - Effective activism for a Kinder world.
Joined by experts from academia and the nonprofit world, we will look at the state of activism within the mess that is our world. All together, we'll be looking to answer the questions: How can we, as global citizens, effectively tackle the challenges our society is facing? And what are our roles as individuals, companies, organisations, and as groups of people who share the same concerns?
We're hosting this event in collaboration with our friends at The Student Hotel.
📅 When Thursday 3 October 2019 @ 6.30 PM
📭 Where The Student Hotel, Wibautstraat 129, 1091 GL Amsterdam
🎫 How can I get in? Tickets are free - but register here for yours
🎯 Why should I attend? Have you been inspired by activists, protests, and movements over the last few months? Maybe there’s an issue you care about but you’re not sure how to really make a difference? This event will investigate grassroots movements like Extinction Rebellion, ones that start with one individual like Greta Thunberg's school strikes, and those of larger organizations, and will help you understand how you, too, can be a part of a revolution, maybe even start your own.
There’ll be inspiring talks, insightful Q&A's and networking drinks to meet budding changemakers.
The speakers that will be joining us are:
👨🔬 Stefania Milan is an Associate Professor of New Media at the University of Amsterdam and Founding Director of the consultancy agency DATACTIVE Ideas Lab. Milan's work explores the impact of social media on collective action and activism that is enabled by social media platforms and digital technologies. Her latest project delves into "data activism": citizens' use of data for social change.
🌈Filipino LGBT Europe is a foundation dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ people in the Philipines and Europe. Board members Ryan Aquino and Hon Sophia Balod will tell the audience about their foundation's work and about effective activism for your home country from abroad.
📣 Ernst Jan-Kuiper, a climate scientist and activist, will be representing the activist group Extinction Rebellion, talking about how they are using civil disobedience and non-violent resistance to compel government action on climate breakdown, biodiversity loss, and the risk of social and ecological collapse.
What is Kinder?
Kinder empowers global citizens to effectively contribute to a Kinder world. We do this by bringing together high-quality research, tech-for-good tools, and the power of storytelling.
Our Kinder Conversations are quarterly events that delve into some of the most urgent issues society faces todat and are part of our storytelling efforts. We dedicated our first Kinder Conversation to the future of meat and the second to the problem of aviation pollution.
How to start a revolution is our third event and we hope to meet you there :)
