PRESENTED BY:

JERI SETTLES, M.A.
OF COMBINED INSURANCE

Everyone with Major Medical Insurance has deductibles and co-pays related to medical treatment for emergencies and other situations. Few people have the full amount of money to meet those expenses in readily available funds.

2) When a medical emergency arises, there are expenses related to that emergency that are not covered by major medical insurance.

Examples: 1) An individual has major medical coverage that has a $2500 deductible and a maximum out of pocket limit of $5000. This means that, at best, $5000 needs to be paid BEFORE the major medical insurance company will pay anything. At worst, it means that $7500 would need to be paid. For most people, in a given year, this means they are ‘self insuring’, meaning THEY are paying ALL of the expenses related to medical needs UNTIL they reach those limits. AFTER those limits are met THEN the major medical carrier begins to pay. When there are co-pays involved, they may or may not be applied to the annual deductible. Most people don’t even know what their out of pocket maximum is for a given year. This is an ANNUAL expense!

2) Who takes care of the four preschoolers when the stay at home parent has a major heart attack? Who pays the mortgage when the entire family is involved in a traffic accident on the way to a vacation or school for a fun event? Most families or individuals would have to deplete a lifetime of savings to meet out of pocket expenses related to a medical emergency.

Combined Insurance has programs designed to help provide ways to bridge the gaps between where major medical insurance begins and the savings end!
