How to Process Chickens (a Hands on Workshop)
Fri, June 16, 2017, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM CDT
A how to class that you have all been asking for! You will be taken step by step through the entire process of bringing a Freedom Ranger Meat bird from pasture, to freezer, to table. You will take home 2 processed chickens, (one whole and one quartered) for your freezer. During this class, we will:
- Go over ethical culling techniques, scalding, plucking, and evisceration for small farms and homesteads.
- Go over the uses for all parts to get the most out of your birds - no waste.
- Discuss organ meat, how to quarter your poultry and bag for freezer.
- Brining techniques as well as bone broth recipes will be included and discussed as well as sampled.
Your pastured poultry are included in the price of this class. This will be a hands on experience! During the first hour we will show set up, discuss tools, and demonstrate several processes. After a break we will walk each person through hands on, 2 chickens! We will keep this class small for plenty of one on one time.
Bring a notebook and snacks/drinks for break and be ready to learn how easy it is to raise and harvest your own healthy, happy, poultry!
