Description

SUCCESSFUL WOMEN MADE HERE is going to the DOGS in October! We’re recognizing Paws & Think because the organization improves lives through the power of the human-dog connection and focuses on the at-risk community, both human and canine.

Executive Director of Paws & Think, Kelsey Burton shares how to empower volunteers. Whether enlisting the help of others to further your business and/or a group of raving fans who believe and support what you do – Kelsey has great insights on gaining their interest and keeping those behind you accountable.

Kelsey has an extensive background in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. She’s also worked with The American Red Cross, and the Family Support Center.
She manages volunteers and partner programs such as Youth Canine, reading and animal-assisted activity/therapy programs.

Paws & Think partners with schools, health care facilities, the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center, humane societies/shelters, and other organizations. The organization provides training for therapy animals for both animal assisted activities and animal assisted therapies to youth, seniors, and special needs individuals.

They also coordinate Youth–Canine Programs for at-risk youth, helping them to train shelter dogs with positive reinforcement. The youth in detention learn responsibility, job readiness, anger management, parenting skills, leadership, and positive life skills, while at the same time increasing the dog’s chances of adoption because of the basic obedience skills learned. The youth work with stray, surrendered, or neglected dogs at-risk of euthanasia.

Their vision is our SWMH vision – to create a community where “every person who would benefit from a dog has the opportunity, and every dog fulfills its potential. They’re an amazing organization – so much so I’m taking part in their October 19th event, “The Magic of Dogs!

Paws & Think was Founded by the late Gayle Hutchens, RN, MSN.
