HOW TO MAKE YOUR BOOK A BESTSELLER
Fri, May 19, 2017, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EDT
This is an all-day boot camp, HOW TO MAKE YOUR BOOK A BESTSELLER, will cover book promotion, special sales, and foreign rights. It will have lectures as well as exercises and activities that will give authors, publishers, publicists, editors, and foreign rights managers the information as well as the skills necessary to promote a book and increase domestic and international sales.
Here is a tentative list of guest speakers: Paula Rizzo, Senior Health Producer at Fox News Channel and Terri Trespicio, co-creator with Paula of a 6 week online course, "Lights Camera Expert"; Wilda Williams, Book Review Editor at Library Journal; Brian Jud, special sales expert, founder of APSS (Association of Publishers for Special Sales); Chuck Monroe, radio tour expert and book publicist, Gold Dust Publicity LLC; Jane Ubell-Meyer, former booker and producer at Good Morning America, Wall Street Journal Report, and expert in getting sponsorships for a book; Susannah Greenberg, owner/president at Susannah Greenberg Public Relations and former marketing manager at Simon & Schuster; Dorri Olds, who has grown her youtube channel to almost 1 million; Darcie Rowan, book publicist at Darcie Rowan PR and former Director of Publicity at M Evans Publishing; and John Valeri, blogger and author. Bestselling novelist Wendy Walker is going to share her amazing story including selling the movie rights to her thriller ALL IS NOT FORGOTTEN to actress-producer Reese Witherspoon.
The day is organized and led by book publishing insider Dr. Jan Yager, who worked at Grove Press and Macmillan as well as having her own titles published by such commercial houses as Simon & Schuster, Doubleday, Scribner, Prentice-Hall, among others. Jan has also run her own small press for 20 years, Hannacroix Creek Books, and she's sold her own and the books of selected clients as well as her company's authors into 34 languages.
This all-day boot camp will help aspiring, new, and even seasoned authors, as well as book publishers, publicists, foreign rights managers, and even members of the media, to gain valuable insights into what's working now to get attention for your book, and more sales, whatever your budget. Topics to be covered include: creating and following a book promotion timeline and check list; can you do promotion on your own or do you need to hire someone and, if you do, where do you start?, if you're published by a company with a publicity department, how do you work more effectively with your publicist; the do's and don'ts of social media for promoting your book; understanding amazon.com and amazon.com reviews; how to get yourself on radio and TV shows; what are special sales and sponsorships and how do you get them as a way to sell more books; why foreign rights is more than just a foreign sale but a publicity tool and how to make foreign deals happen; and lots more.
From 8:30-9 is optional networking. The event starts at 9. We'll break for 30 minutes for lunch. We'll end by 5 but there will also be an optional networking with lite refreshmends from 5-6:30.
This day is about learning as much as possible about book promotion, special sales, and foreign rights in just one packed day from Dr. Jan Yager, her knowledgable guest speakers, and through interactive activities and exercises throughout the day. But this unique boot camp is also about meeting others in the industry -- authors, publicists, publishers, special sales experts, book reviewers, and other book publishing professionals-- since the book business is truly a people business. Whether you are published by a major house, self-published, or in the early stages of writing your book, learning about book promotion, special sales, and foreign rights will empower you to get the word out about your new book and, hopefully to get more publicity and sales, domestically and globally.
In addition to the all-day event, you will be given valuable handouts at the end of the boot camp including:

Praise for Dr. Jan Yager from an attendee at a previous Book Promotion Boot Camp and coaching client:
“I've had seven books published by Harcourt, Inc. and know more than the average bear about how to promote my books. However, Jan Yager is *not* the average bear. After taking her Book Promotion Boot Camp a
few years ago, I recommended it to everyone, from complete strangers, to writers who are dear friends. It's an incredibly valuable learning experience, and if you actually follow through on her suggestions and
tips, your book sales are bound to feel the effect. Jan Yager's expertise is so extensive and unique that after I took her Boot Camp, I hired her for a one-on-one consultation. She gave me insightful suggestions and ideas on how to promote a specific book, and continued to support me above and beyond the call of duty. She's dedicated, enthusiastic, and well versed in what she does, and I, as well as my books, are better for having worked with her.”-- Katie Davis (http://www.katiedavis.com)
