Event description

Description

We’ve all had those experiences when we’ve been "in the zone," when everything ‘clicked’ and we were on a roll, doing more than we thought we could, often transcending old limits, and yet it seemed effortless and fun. At those times, things just seemed to fall into place and we were in the flow, so totally focused and in tune with what we were doing that we lost track of time, and felt vital and full of energy.

New York Times best-selling author, Dr. Robert Kriegel, has spent the past four decades writing books, giving speeches and coaching individuals and teams on how to access that "peak zone," thus overcoming the mental obstacles that inhibit top performance.

This program will explore what the "zone" is like for older adults, and how it is both similar to and different from the "zone" of our younger years. Dr. Kriegel will outline the characteristics necessary for accessing that "peak zone" more often as we age, as well as how to overcome sabotage thinking that creates stress, anxiety, worry and depression. He’ll also discuss techniques for getting into the "zone" for longer periods of times by choice, rather than by chance, and ultimately live a life that is rich, rewarding and fun.

Robert Kriegel, PhD is a psychologist and a trailblazer in the science of human performance, and has been named by US News & World Report as "one of the country's leading authorities in the field of change and human performance." He was a commentator on NPR’s Marketplace program for 8 years, did two specials for PBS and was a regular guest on many TV shows, including Oprah.

Dr. Kriegel was a member of the California Governor’s Council on Wellness and Physical Fitness, has taught at Stanford’s Executive Management Program, led encounter groups in the heydays of Esalen Institute and was an advertising executive at Young & Rubicam.

A former all-American swimmer and pioneer in the field of sports psychology, Dr. Kriegel has been the mental coach for many Olympic and professional teams and athletes. He was the co-founder of Esalen Institute’s Sports Center which the New York Times said “spurred a revolution in performance practices”. He is the co-author of the New York Times best seller, Inner Skiiing, and has done commentary for the US Pro Ski tour on ESPN.

His books include international best seller If It Ain’t Broke…BREAK IT!; The C Zone; Getting Ordinary People to do Extraordinary Things; Business Week best seller Sacred Cows Make the Best Burgers; and Performance Under Pressure. Some copies of the first two books mentioned here will be available for purchase and signing at this event. CHECK OR CASH ONLY. They are in the $15-20 price range.
