Anyone can learn to draw and express themselves creatively. The best tool towards this end is to keep a sketchbook, or visual journal, on a regular basis. In this workshop you will be guided and encouraged to develop the habit of keeping a sketchbook, and to allow yourself the freedom to develop your artistic skills and self expression without harsh self judgment. Every sketchbook or visual journal is as unique and individual as you are — a place within which you can freely express and allow yourself to develop this fun, healthy and positive lifelong habit, regardless of what level you believe yourself to be right now. This is a place to totally be yourself. Classes will be tailored according to the interests and goals of participants in the class, but may include: short prompts, assignments and exercises to loosen you up and help you develop the habit of looking and seeing, exploring different techniques for mark making, drawing from observation, sketching from nature, figure drawing, urban sketching, drawing from your imagination, collage and mixed media. Here is a time and a place where you can allow yourself to play, make mistakes, freely express yourself creatively, and develop your artistic skills and abilities at your own pace. Newbies and beginners are welcome.
Please note that our classes are typically held in the lower level of Arlene's. Because access to the lower level is available only by stair, please let us know if using the stairs presents any difficulty for you in advance of the class so we can make alternate arrangements. We want to make sure everyone is able to enjoy and participate in our classes.
