How to Have the Drug Talk: Addiction & Overdose Prevention for Families
Event Information
About this Event
Many parents have no idea when their child starts using drugs. Don't be one of them.
Explaining the life-altering harms of addiction, arrest, and overdose to a teenager isn't easy. Getting them to listen to your words of caution is hard enough without the added stressors of a pandemic.
We get it.
In this 12-week program, we demystify modern drug problems. Participants will:
- Talk to public health experts and policy advocates about emerging trends.
- Understand how social media and technology change the landscape of how young people obtain and learn about drugs.
- Learn how to confidently communicate about drugs, create healthy boundaries, and raise resilient kids.
- Practice the most important strategies for preventing addiction and overdose in families.
- Explore creative alternatives to punishment that actually work.
We're all familiar with abstinence-only drug education. It doesn't work, and it doesn't work with sex education either. What does work is honesty and behavioral health practices that empower your child to make safer choices even when you can't be there to guide them.
It's never too late to become an expert on this fascinating topic and strengthen the relationship you have with your child.
Registration Includes:
- 12 live, interactive 90-minute Zoom sessions
- Lifetime access to all session recordings
- Fees for guest speakers (TBA!)
- A curated library of resources
Two free-or-reduced registrations are available on a first-come, first-served basis for families experiencing financial hardship. Send us a message to nominate yourself or someone else.
