An Inspiring Story of One of Our Attendees:
Carlos is a first generation college student that attended Cal-Poly Pomona. His biggest fear was not being able to use his skills and degree to find a job and continue providing for his family. In addition, he once heard that he needed to expand his social skills and communicate with people in his field and learn about the different job opportunities there is. He decided to stay motivated and attend an engineering event. Carlos made the decision to attended one of our engineering events and met with a manager from Boeing. Both remained in touch because Carlos showed interest and wanted to find opportunities at Boeing. Later, Carlos was called in for an interview and was successfully able to land a full time job at Boeing. Carlos was able to land a job because he made the decision of networking with people in his field and with professionals; attending networking events increases the chance for one to land a job because professionals see the interests of one in person.



Speakers

  1. Rudy Loera has over 30 years of Aerospace experience working on projects such as USAF B-1 Bomber, USAF B-2 Bomber, F-18 Navy Fighter Jet, F-5 USAF Fighter Jet, X-47B Navy Unmanned Combat Vehicle, NASA Crew Exploration Vehicle, USAF B-21 Bomber. He started his career working as a Financial Pricer and rose to Senior Pricing Lead for 10 years then Materiel Estimating on B-2 Bomber on major negotiations for 10 years. Final 10 years as Program Integration Manager which is like an orchestra leader since he was responsible for all Engineering disciplines, Business/Finance, Security, IT, Facilities Infrastructure, presentations to NASA and Navy. His degrees are from USC English and Drama major, 2 years towards my MBA at CSULA and Systems Engineering Certificate at Cal Tech.

  2. Scott Simpson is a Director of Engineering at Gravity Brands. He has a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering and Computer Applications from St. Mary’s University and a Masters in Software Engineering in from St. Mary’s University.

  3. Rajaraaman Muralimanoharan is the HL Director, IT at Nordstrom, CA. He has a Bachelor of Computer Science from University of Madres and a Masters in Information Technology from the Sikkim Manipal University.

  4. Kinta Turner Kinta holds a Master’s degree from The George Washington University in Strategic Communications with an emphasis on Corporate Social Responsibility; a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies; and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University.

  5. John Rose is the Senior Manager of Structures Technology at Boeing. He has a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona and a Masters of Aerospace Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona. He also has a certificate in Leadership from UCI and an MBA in International Strategy from USC.

  6. Carlos Phoenix brings over 15 years of experience in technology, audit, and compliance. He is the Global Cyber Strategist for VMware, directing the alignment between virtual technology and security requirements. Carlos started his career as a programmer and system integrator. He has worked with numerous Fortune 100 organizations and firms such as Deloitte & Touche, KPMG, and Coalfire Systems. He is interested in the potential for cybersecurity to redefine our relationship with technology, and encourages others to join the evolving conversation. Carlos holds certifications in IT Audit (CISA) and Project Management (PRINCE2). His work experience spans 9 countries and 5 languages.
