‘HOW TO GET A FIRST IN IR’

Exam Preparation | Some Essential Insights with Dr. Hans Gutbrod

By end of the first term, most students have gained a thorough insight into their subject. But do they know how to succeed in the upcoming lent term or later exams? As it turns out, the quantity of studying alone cannot guarantee successful exam performance. This one-hour talk tells you how you can prepare to succeed, offering lots of practical advice. It's based on the speaker's own experience at the IR Department. Grimshaw has hosted this event twice before and it has been a great success with lots of useful insights.

Dr. Hans Gutbrod runs Transparify, an initiative that advocates for more transparency in policy research and has made more than $400m in think tank funding more transparent. He regularly works with think tanks around the world, and previously was the Regional Director of the Caucasus Research Resource Centers (CRRC), the largest research organization in the South Caucasus. In this position he oversaw more than 100 research projects in diverse fields, the results of which were cited in major news outlets including the BBC, the Economist, and the New York Times. Hans is the author of a Handbook for Professional Communication, which has been published in various countries. He holds a Ph.D. and a B.Sc. (First Class Honours) in International Relations from the London School of Economics. Hans is also on Twitter @HansGutbrod
