Event description

Finding grants for your nonprofit is a lot like shopping for a good melon. First, you need to determine what you are going to do with it. Then it's time to go shopping! As you shop, you have to spend time assessing -- the size, the smell, the texture. Then for each one, you need to ask, "Will this one meet my needs?"

Grant research also takes time and requires assessing if each discovered opportunity will meet your needs. But with a plan and a few tips and tricks, you can save some time and energy and avoid applying for grants you most likely won't receive.

Join Michelle Nusum-Smith, owner and Principal Consultant at The Word Woman LLC, to learn:

  • the different types of grant sources for nonprofits,

  • the various resources where you can find grant opportunities to support your nonprofit's programs, projects and/or operating costs,

  • how to know when a grant opportunity is right for your organization AND proposed project), and

  • lesser known places to inding grant opportunities

Michelle will discuss her lessons learned as well as her tips and tricks developed over nearly twenty years of grant/contract proposal development experience, including preparing winning propolals totalling more than $50M from private foundations and government agencies, as well as her three years serving as a grant application reviewer for a federal agency.
