About this event
The Illinois Ready Mixed Concrete Association is excited to announce our first of several FREE webinars titled: How to Design Concrete Parking Lots using the American Concrete Institute’s Guide for the Design and Construction of Concrete Parking Lots (ACI 330R-08) presented by Luke McHugh, PE, Senior Director of Local Paving with the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. One professional development hour (PDH) will be given to everyone who registers and attends the webinar.
Title: How to Design Concrete Parking Lots using the American Concrete Institute’s Guide for the Design and Construction of Concrete Parking Lots (ACI 330R-08)
Date: February 3, 2021
Time: 12:00 PM CST
Description:
The American Concrete Institute publication ACI 330R-08 is the industry standard for the design and construction of concrete parking lots. This document provides the necessary guidance to develop efficient and cost effective concrete pavement strategies for residential, commercial, industrial, warehouse, and manufacturing projects that are overdesigned using highway design methodology. Overdesign increases the initial construction cost, and unfortunately, disqualifies concrete as a viable material option. By using proven design techniques and appropriate details, a designer can develop a structurally sound, environmentally sustainable, and maintenance friendly concrete pavement section that will perform for many years. This seminar will provide instruction on how to easily design and detail concrete pavements used in parking lots by considering the anticipated traffic loads, existing soil conditions, and basic concrete properties.
The illustration below is the result of using the ACI design approach. The asphalt and traditional concrete pavement sections, using highway design methods, are intended by the designer to be equivalent. By designing according to ACI 330R-08, the traditional concrete pavement section was reduced and saved the owner hundreds of thousands of dollars.
