Simply said when a homeowner owns a property and they fall behind on their real estate taxes (in some states) the town forecloses on their house. We are not talking tax liens here where we foreclose. The town itself forecloses on their house. Once the town takes ownership of the property they will then put the property into an auction where you can buy the property for pennies to the dollar. Why for pennies? The reason for this is because the town is just trying to collect what is owed to them and nothing more.
