How to Avoid a Medical Board Complaint

Wednesday, August 31, 2022

6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Physicians must be knowledgeable regarding how to avoid being reported to the Medical Board. They must also understand the Medical Board's role and responsibilities for physician oversight; including, reviewing and investigating complaints, issuing sanctions, and imposing disciplinary action when a physician violates licensure and statutory regulations. This program will provide physicians with information on the types of complaints and issues that most frequently prompt the Medical Board to send a letter of inquiry and investigation to a physician. The session will include 805.8 mandatory reporting requirements and discuss the appropriate process to follow when responding to a letter from the Medical Board.

At the conclusion of this program, you will be able to:

  • Understand the Medical Board role in consumer complaints against the medical profession
  • Discuss three frequent reasons physicians receive a letter from the Medical Board.
  • Evaluate two practice areas to assess for improvement to decrease the chance of a Medical Board inquiry
  • Develop an action plan to follow in the event I receive a letter from the Medical Board

  • Julie Song, MPH, CPHRM: Patient Safety Risk Manager II, The Doctors Company
  • Richard F. Cahill, Esq. Vice President, Associate General Counsel , The Doctors Company
