Event Details

Jeanette and Jenn pictureTitle: How Mentoring is Helpful at All Stages of Recovery with Jeanette Henriques

Event Description: A mentoring relationship is like any other relationship in life.  These relationships are hard and take a lot of work but the rewards can be immeasurable!  At MentorCONNECT, we recognize that mentoring is a gift that helps everyone at any stage of the recovery process. Our mentors are mentored and supported even as they serve and support their mentees. Similarly, our mentees are encouraged to offer their service in appropriate ways until they are strong enough to become mentors themselves.  Join us for this teleconference to learn more about how mentoring can be helpful at all stages of the recovery process.

This teleconference also features special guest Jenn Sternecker who will share her personal experiences as a mentee and a mentor.                 Jeanette & Jenn

Presenter Bios:

Jeanette Henriques is living life without an eating disorder after over 15 years of struggling. Throughout the course of her journey she struggled with anorexia, bulimia, depression and post traumatic stress disorder. However, today she travels around talking to children, adolescents and adults sharing her experience. Not only does she let people know that it is possible to move beyond disordered eating but that it is possible to move beyond your past. Jeanette counsels and mentors those with eating disorders as well as victims of abuse. Her message to all those that struggle is one of hope and acceptance and encourages people to work towards their dreams because anything is possible. You can learn more about Jeanette by visiting the MentorCONNECT Leadership page at www.mentorconnect-ed.org/mcleadershipteam/

Jenn Sternecker suffered through 14 years where she felt unable to simply be comfortable inside her own skin. Yet today, Jenn is in continuous recovery and takes her life a day at a time. She used to numb her anxiety and depression through anorexia and various other unhealthy coping patterns. She did this because she never felt good enough, pretty enough, funny enough, smart enough - she just never felt like she was "enough" by just being herself. After years of therapy, treatment, medication, recovery retreats with Thom Rutledge, writing her own recovery blog, being mentored and mentoring, the most beneficial recovery maintenance program Jenn has found is through the path of service. Whether it be simply calling or texting with a struggling friend or serving as a mentor or sponsor herself, Jenn has found appropriate ways to be of service at every stage of her recovery journey. Jenn's message to others who struggle is simple: Believe in yourself, hang on to hope and trust and always reach for your dreams because lasting recovery IS possible.
