Event description

Description

How do you find yourself when you find yourself where you don't belong?

Jonny Fluffypunk grew up in the far-flung, forgotten reaches of outer suburbia. In 1984, he was fifteen.

This is a story about being the first punk in the village and the only trainspotter in eyeliner. About unrequited love and youth club and John Peel and the forgotten gods of small record shops; about making your own myth and letting go and a million everyday life-changing moments in the back end of nowhere.

This is lo-fi stand-up spoken word theatre for anyone who has listened to late-night radio under the bedcovers, or fallen in love, or just been alive.

About the show

How I Came To Be Where I Never Was is an energetic and uplifting show about the small things in life, fusing theatre, storytelling, comedy, ‘stand-up poetry’ (think John Cooper-Clarke not John Keats) and even a bit of ukulele.

"a little work of genius"

"haphazard but utterly lovable coming of age story"

"a brilliant, hilarious and charismatic performer"

'Entertaining, bizarre, sparking life at a tremendous rate'

'Brilliant, evocative, eloquent'

About Jonny Fluffypunk

Bohemian layabout, armchair revolutionary and poet/ theatre maker Jonny Fluffypunk, began his career spitting vicious political verse between bands at punk gigs until cured by a West Country shaman. Now he ‘does’ poetry that fuses bittersweet autobiography, political disillusionment and surreal whimsy in an act which has established him as a firm favourite at festivals, arts centres and housing benefit offices up and down the country.

His previous show Man Up Jonny Fluffypunk (one man's struggle with responsibility) had its debut at Brighton Fringe and went on to tour to a Gloucestershire shed, WOMAD Festival, an empty shop, a railway goods shed and Leicester Square Theatre.
