About this Event

Many military families may be caring for someone with a life-limiting illness and may wonder about how hospice and palliative care might help. Ryan Weller, National Program Manager of Palliative & Hospice Care at the Department of Veterans Affairs, will address some common questions and break down some common misunderstandings of what this type of care can provide, especially for veterans. Carlos Graveran, Executive Director of Hospice of Frederick County and an Army veteran, will share his experiences providing military families the dignity and honor they deserve as they face life’s end.

Meet the Presenters

Carlos Graveran, Executive Director of Hospice of Frederick County, has nearly 30 years of experience in various facets of the healthcare industry. Before his appointment in July of 2016 to his current role as Executive Director, Frederick Health Hospice, he honed his skills working with pharmaceutical, home health and hospice organizations; most recently as Vice President of Operations for VITAS Healthcare. He is a passionate advocate for hospice and end-of-life care with demonstrated knowledge of hospice operations, leadership, financial management and strategy development. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Carlos is also a very proud US Army veteran (Paratrooper, 82nd Airborne Division).

Ryan Weller, LCSW, APHSW-C, is the National Program Manager for Palliative and Hospice Care in the Department of Veterans Affairs. Previously, he was the palliative care social worker at the Portland, Oregon, VA for 18 years. He is also the President-Elect of the Advanced Palliative & Hospice Social Work Certification (APHSW-C) Board of Directors.
