Event description

Description

On Giving Tuesday, Merit School of Music, in partnership with Chicago Sinfonietta, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO), and Chicago Athletic Association Hotel (CAA), will hand the mic to the next generation of classical musicians.

Currently, African-Americans and Latinx represent barely 4% of American orchestras. Why is this? And how can we change the look of the orchestras of the future? These are just a couple of the questions to be considered during a panel discussion exploring the homogeneity of modern classical music.

Through a conversation with Chicago Sinfonietta’s Kedrick Armstrong, top student musicians from varying backgrounds will share diverse perspectives on finding a place in classical music. Their stories will be interspersed with musical performances by students and Chicago Sinfonietta's Project Inclusion Ensemble.

After the discussion, join the Associate Board of Merit School of Music for a fundraiser benefiting Merit and their mission to remove barriers to high-quality music education. Cocktails, tacos, and an instrument drive, all in Happy's, the hotel's holiday pop-up bar.

PANEL DISCUSSION: FREE!

EARLY BIRD FUNDRAISER PRICE: $35
