How Can We Respond to Police Violence as a Public Health Crisis?
Event Information
Description
What can universities and community organizations do to act against police violence? What is the role of the police under capitalism? Is state initiated violence and repression a matter of bad apples or intentional policy? What will this look like under the Trump Administration?
Members of DC Release Aging Prisoners in Prison (RAPP) will lead a discussion with professors, students, and community residents about what we can do against structural racism (racism imposed by the socioeconomic system). We will view the film, Profiled, that shows community and student responses to police brutality, and analyzes the use of government sponsored violence throughout US history.
