“How Can we Link Youth, Environment and the Economy?” - Tools teenagers need to connect environmental knowledge and ALL careers

Sustainability advocates tout a “green economy” and the environmental education profession promotes “environmental literacy.” It’s time to intimately connect these two parallel pathways to inspire and educate young people on how aspects of all careers and livelihoods can nourish their families, communities and the living systems upon which we all depend.

Please join us at the Alliance Center to advance an "ALL Careers approach" that empowers young people to connect environmental principles with All Careers to create a sustainable world.

Program to include:

  • Presentation to inspire a mindset shift of how we define environmental careers as well as identify specific links between environmental knowledge/concern and ALL careers.
  • Panel discussion with educators, youth development advocates and members of the business community considering how we can provide young people the information, tools and perspectives to purposefully incorporate sustainability into all areas of the economy . . . any and all careers they pursue.
  • Networking, Conversation and Refreshments.
  • Discussion of next steps for making connections between environmental knowledge/concern and ALL careers?

Professionals in sustainability, education, business and non-profit are invited to attend. Students with interest in leading the advancement of the green economy are also welcome.

Thoughts from Alan Hankla, Physics Teacher at Peak to Peak Charter School in Lafayette, CO, who was moved by the ALL Careers approach: “[the talk] at Peak to Peak inspired me to broaden my understanding of what an environmental career is to encompass almost all careers ranging from agriculture to engineering, and everything in between. With this shift in mindset, my students felt empowered to positively affect the health of the environment, regardless of their chosen major in college.”
