Event description
A training session for researchers at all levels to explore opportunities to work with NICE

About this Event

We’re delighted that NICE will be delivering a training session, for researchers at all career stages across the University of Manchester, on Friday 28 February 2020 in the Schuster Annexe. Tea and coffee will be served from 9:00, with talks beginning at 9:30. The session will close at 13:00 and be followed by a complimentary networking lunch until 14:00.

A full agenda can be seen below.

The session aims to demystify the processes involved in developing NICE clinical guidelines, highlight other areas of activity such as diagnostics guidance, public health and technology appraisals, and outline opportunities for you to engage with NICE at various stages of your research.

The intention for the session is to revolve around the role of research in:

• identifying and prioritising topics for guidance development

• appraising and synthesising current evidence

• identifying evidence gaps

• supporting NICE’s leadership role in the health and social care system

You will also hear two cross-Faculty case studies to illustrate how a dermatologist and physicist from the University have influenced NICE guidelines and led to a change in public behaviour, plus how a computer scientist developed a text mining system that is now supporting evidence-based public health interventions.

If you have any questions about the event, or would like to discuss a specific issue with colleagues from NICE, then please let us know before 31st January 2020 by emailing lauren.tempelman@manchester.ac.uk.

Approved by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom for 4 category 1 (external) CPD credit(s).
