Calling all mystery writers and noir aficionados for a rare opportunity
June 6, at 6:30 PM
Akashic Books continues its award-winning series of original noir anthologies, each set in a single city, with the long-awaited Houston Noir, released in May 2019.
Publishers Weekly says of the collection “Noir aficionados will be pleased.”
Kirkus says “Houston comes across as a haven of multiculturalism—though, as in all the 90-plus volumes of Akashic’s 15-year-old series, the vision of the city that emerges isn’t likely to jump-start tourism for any but the most ghoulishly inclined.”
CrimeReads heralds “Houston Noir has arrived, an ode to the grime, grit and glamour of Texas’s largest, most fascinating (and, to be fair, probably ugliest) city.”
Join the collection’s editor and one of its award-winning authors for a fun, informal workshop designed to spark your hardboiled imagination!
Stephanie Jaye Evans and Gwendolyn Zepeda will share tips on noir writing, story-crafting, and publishing your work.
Stephanie Jaye Evans is a fifth-generation Texan. She wrote her first novel as the capstone for her MLS from Rice University. Faithful Unto Death (Berkley Prime Crime, 2012) was a Library Journal Debut of the Month, a Houston Chronicle Ultimate Summer Book List pick, and a nominee for the Agatha’s Best First. She is currently working on a Southern Gothic set in the Houston Heights, where she now makes her home.
In addition to editing Houston Noir, Gwendolyn Zepeda has published three novels, one short story collection, two poetry collections, and five children’s books. She was Houston’s first poet laureate from 2013 to 2015.
This event is free to the public! Books will be available for purchase and signing.
