The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. It started as a 1 hour introduction to computer science, designed to demysitfy "code", and show that anybody can learn the basics.
icitizen and The Iron Yard - Nashville have partnered together to offer three free coding workshops as part of The Hour of Code. Whether your child is brand new to coding, or already an aspiring developer, there will be a fun, engaging session where they can dive into some CS fundamentals!
Check-in will begin at 4:30pm, with the workshops running from 5pm to 6pm. Please be sure to bring a fully charged laptop for you child to use. Parents are required to stay on-site with children who are under 16.
Minecraft: Ages 7-10
Let's go on an adventure in this Minecraft world! Kids will learn basic coding concepts as they program their character to move through, and interact with the elements around them. This is a great introductory lesson for kids who are very new to programming.
Build a Hide-and-Seek Game in Scratch: Ages 10-13
Build your own game using Scratch! We'll explore various programming concepts as we code characters to randomly hide and pop out of our backdrop. Can you tag each one and tally up the highest score? If you plan to participate in this workshop, please create a free scratch account for your child ahead of time.
