Event description

Description

An Hour of Code takes place during Computer Science Education week and is a worldwide grassroots movement to demystify coding and introduce the basics of computer science. Students are introduced to programming skills and they navigate through tutorials using drag and drop coding blocks that make learning to code really fun!

Learning to code has huge benefits for children. One benefit is future career opportunities. Did you know that by the year 2020 there will be over 1,000,000 more jobs in computer science then qualified people to fill them?

Steve Jobs said that “everyone should know how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think!” Learning to code goes beyond career preparation, it improves critical thinking, sequencing, storytelling and many other valuable skills. Acquiring these skills help provide students a solid foundation in STEM thinking abilities to prepare them for 21st century degrees and careers!

During our free Hour of Code, students in grades 1-8 will complete puzzles and creative activities designed to teach the basics of computer programming.
