Welcome to Hot Luck ‘18, and for a lot of you – welcome to Austin. FRIDAY FOOD EVENT, MAY 25: Night Court
Venue: Fair Market
Doors open at 6:00PM.

Hot Luck reimagines the 1980s mall food court with some of the most inspiring chefs in America who have been challenged to create their own food court concept that will live for one night only. A Hot Luck food court means Thai barbecue by chicken wing impresario Andy Ricker (Pok Pok, PDX and NYC), a ramen joint by noodle legend Ivan Orkin (Ivan Ramen, NYC), a burger-themed tribute to legendary food writer Josh Ozersky by meat maven John Tesar (Knife, Dallas), and a sweet shop by Austin pastry ace Laura Sawicki (Launderette, Austin). Come help us relive the place where we’d share food, trade gossip and hand draw emojis in real time.

The Lineup:
Chad Dolezal (The Hightower), Todd Duplechan (Lenoir), Bryce Gilmore (Odd Duck), Sarah McIntosh (Epicerie), Laura Sawicki (Launderette), Philip Speer (Bonhomie), Jason Stude (Boiler Nine), John Tesar (Knife), Justin Yu (Theodore Rex), Ivan Orkin (Ivan Ramen), Andy Ricker (Pok Pok), Joshua McFadden (Ava Gene) - Food and refreshments are included with ticket
$125.00 $13.19 $11.40
FRIDAY FOOD EVENT, May 25: Cisco's Takeover
Venue: Cisco's Restaurant & Bakery
Doors open at 10:00PM.

Authentic Austin often feels lost in our fast-growing city, but institutions like the old-school Mexican diner Cisco’s never leave our hearts. There, we’ve fought with family and shook on hush-hush deals, all while enjoying some of the tastiest tortillas and best company in town. On late Friday night, we’ve invited chefs Alex Stupak (Empellón, New York) and Alejandro Escalante (Casa De Los Tacos, Mexico City) to the Cisco’s dining room to pay homage to this Austin institution—and to celebrate Mexican food, its history and its impact. As the The New York Times put it, Stupak “doesn’t reproduce or translate (Mexican) cuisine; he builds a fantasy version of it, coupling deep technical skills with imagination,” and Escalante, a great chef in his own right, in fact helped write the book on tacos, having edited Tacopedia for Phaidon--a compendium on tacos that’s published in multiple languages and boasts a forward penned by Noma’s Rene Redzepi. This is not an event to be missed.

The Lineup:
Alex Stupak (Empellón), Alejandro Escalante (Casa De Los Taco) - Food and refreshments are included with ticket
$70.00 $8.46 $6.47
SATURDAY FOOD EVENT, MAY 26: Al Fuego
Venue: Wild Onion Ranch
Doors open at 6:00PM.

Al Fuego is Hot Luck’s main event: a live-action, flame-fueled celebration of open-air cooking styles—from Texas to Thailand. Al Fuego is where we coax our chef friends out of their comfort zone and ask them to cook what they might for friends in their own backyards. We provide chefs the best meats, the coldest beer and Aaron Franklin might even build them specialty cooker. The end result reflects the entire reason Hot Luck exists: To celebrate the fare rarely seen at large events: the obsessively prepared, passionately executed, inspiring food that chefs love to eat.

The Lineup:
Tatsu Aikawa & Takuya Matsumoto (Kemuri), Tyson Cole (Loro), Jesse Griffiths (Dai Due), Zach Hunter (Brewer's Table), David Norman (Easy Tiger), Fermin Núñez (Suerte), Callie Speer (Holy Roller), Fiore Tedesco (L'Oca d'Oro), Casey Wilcox (Central Standard), Andrew Wisehart (Contigo), Rebecca Masson (Fluff Bake Bar), Ashley Christensen (Poole's), Billy Durney (Hometown Barbecue), Renee Erickson (The Walrus & The Carpenter), Adrienne Lo & Abraham Conlon (Fat Rice) - Food and refreshments are included with ticket
$195.00 $18.89 $17.65
SATURDAY FOOD EVENT, May 26: The Giddy Up
Venue: Weather Up
Doors open at 9:00PM.

Before America’s food revolution came into full swing, there was Balthazar—Lee Hanson’s, Riad Nasr’s, and Keith McNally’s Paris-inspired New York City neighborhood institution that forged a blueprint for what casual American dining would become. Now on their own, the duo’s brand new restaurant Frenchette is the talk of NYC. Meanwhile, in Montreal, Frédéric Moran and David McMillan’s Joe Beef celebrates the deft technique, light touch and over-the-top Quebecois excess that made it one of the most chef-loved restaurants in the world. For the closing night-time party to end all closing night-time parties, Nasr, Hanson, McMillian, Portland charcuterie legend Elias Cairo of Olympia Provisions and John and Kendall Antonelli's from the eponymous beloved Austin's cheese shop will come together for the most decadent feast of the senses that Austin has ever seen.

The Lineup:
David McMillan + Frédéric Morin (Joe Beef), Riad Nasr (Frenchette) - Food and refreshments are included with ticket
$85.00 $9.93 $7.83
SUNDAY FOOD EVENT, May 27: Coupe de Grille
Venue: Austin Speed Shop
Doors open at noon.

Because bacon, booze, and breakfast tacos are the best ways to end a long and rowdy weekend, Hot Luck gives you Coupe De Grille—the festival’s spirited Sunday brunch gathering featuring our favorite chef friends from Austin and all over America hosted at Austin’s most legendary hot rod shop. Take in the slow and mellow Sunday vibes, check out lean, mean driving machines, and stuff your face with chilaquiles, breakfast tacos, cornbread and more with beer, bloodies and fizzy wine drinks.

The Lineup:
Kevin Fink (Emmer & Rye), Michael Fojtasek (Olamaie), Miguel Vidal (Valentina's Tex Mex), Chris Shepherd (Underbelly), Rico Torres & Diego Galicia (Mixtli), Elias Cairo (Olympia Provisions), Peter Cho (Han Oak) - Food and refreshments are included with ticket

Event Details

On May 24–27, 2018 in Austin, Texas, Hot Luck: Live Food & Music will return to honor the soul, sweat and DIY diversity of the food and music world. It’s the perfect imperfection of grandma’s gumbo and pawpaw’s BBQ — but delivered by new interpretations from the next generation.

Hot Luck is inspired by friendly tailgates, family reunions, get-togethers and potlucks of our past and present — with a few differences. It is a fun, chef-driven, celebration of fire, food, music, and camaraderie. And surprises, lots of fun surprises.

An a la carte eat-with-your-fingers picnic and party experience that highlights open-pit feats of culinary know how, and music in your ears that is as thoughtfully created as the food on your plate. Come hungry, thirsty, and bring your dancin' boots.

Hot Luck is proud to donate a portion of the festival’s proceeds to The SAFE Alliance. The SAFE Alliance is a merger of Austin Children’s Shelter and SafePlace, both long-standing and respected human service agencies in Austin serving the survivors of child abuse, sexual assault and exploitation, and domestic violence. Visit safeaustin.org to learn more about this amazing organization.

A wide variety of food and music events comprise Hot Luck. Tickets for individual events will go on sale February 21, 2018.
